Brie Thompson

Brie Thompson is an artist and printmaker based in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Ball State University in 2008 with a BFA in Printmaking and BS in Art Education. Brie joined the member-run non-profit printmaking cooperative, Flight 64, in 2010 and continues to print in this hidden gem. She sits on the board as Treasurer and recognizes the creative power that comes along with working in a shared space.
Brie runs a one-woman printmaking business called Lake Effect Press. Her work is inspired by the lush landscape of the Pacific Northwest and her passion for hiking and skiing. She is fascinated by the series of actions it takes to make a print. There is something of a ritual in the printmaking process, and now that it’s a part of her self-care routine she doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Speedball’s Mounted Linoleum is my go-to medium. The quality and value of this product make it approachable to both beginners and advanced printmakers. The mount is flat and free of surface defects which gives the block stability while carving. It holds up under the pressure of a printing press and also makes beautiful impressions with a spoon or baren. I also recommend Speedball’s line of Acrylic Screen Printing Ink. The ink has a wonderful consistency, the colors are vibrant and the results are reliable. Shout-out to Speedball’s Screen Filler for saving the day (again and again)! This product is a must for screen printing.
