Color Theory for Printmakers
January 28, 2018
During this workshop we will delve into color theory applied to monotype printmaking, but anyone working with color in any medium would benefit from this information. Akua Waterbased Inks are particularly well suited for exploring optical mixes of subtle layers of color and ink manipulation. We will be printing on PETG plates that are thin, transparent plastic. PETG is thin enough to print well either face up or face down for easy registration and printing of multiple color plates. We will print with complimentary and analogous colors by employing subtractive monotype techniques, and adding surface rolls to integrate and harmonize these printed colors. We will practice mixing beautiful neutral grays and earth tones to gain control and confidence while printing with color.
This workshop is open to beginners with no printmaking experience as well as experienced printmakers. It can also be used as an introduction or a re-fresher course for those familiar with monotype printmaking and how to work with Akua Intaglio Inks.
