Mixed Media Monoprinting with Susan Rostow
July 14, 2019 - July 20, 2019
Create one of a kind prints or varied editions by combining monotype with safe plate-making methods. Susan Rostow will introduce her latest innovations using carborundum-coated plated in conjunction with monotype. Carborundum printmaking is a collagraph process which offers a textured surface to the plate. Since the carborundum is built up on the plate, the paper slightly embosses when going through the press, creating a rich, velvety print. Demos will include coating the plates for even coverage, drawing into wet and dry carborundum and creating “mezzotint-like” and “litho-like” impressions from candles, china markers, litho crayons and pencils. Numerous approaches for using Akua Intaglio & Liquid Pigments inks, modifiers and cover overlays will be covered. All materials used in the workshop are fume-free and clean up easily with soap and water. Participants will use an etching press and also have the opportunity to try hand-printing with the Akua Pin Press. Individual attention will be given to each student to help develop their personal style with the mediums. Beginners and advanced printmakers are welcome.
