Monotype: Consider the Possibilities with Judy Just

EXPLORING MONOTYPE CLASSES (each session is 6 weeks long)
Thursdays, 9:30 – 12:30pm, ALL SKILL LEVELS
Medium – Printmaking, Akua Ink, Monotype/Monoprint, Non-toxic Printmaking
Supply Fee: $20 per session, cover tools, plate, inks. Basic paper will be furnished. Other papers will be discussed in the first class.
Plunge into Monotype! Broaden your artistic horizons with printmaking. Monotype offers a unique opportunity to explore new ways of making images with Akua intaglio inks that are nontoxic and are easy to clean up with water. Judy will demonstrate how to work with the inks and the tools suited for use with this ink.
You will experiment with basic techniques including ink mixing, rollout, additive/reductive, stencils, working with the “ghost” image, trace monotype, mark making, layering of color and much more. Judy will demonstrate all of these techniques. This class welcomes artists new to printmaking and Akua Inks as well as experienced printmakers. This way of working is appropriate for realism and abstract imagery.
Session #1: October 31 – Dec 12 (no class Nov 28) – Monotype: The Painterly Monotype
Students will be creating monotypes utilizing brushes, brayers and stencils to create a finished print. Use of the inks and tools will be demonstrated along with other techniques.
Session #2: January 9 – February 13, 2020 – Monotype: Consider the Possibilities
In this class students will to use collograph, color layering and and markmaking to create a finished print.
Session #3: February 20 – April 2 (No class Feb 27), 2020 – Monotype: Lines,Textures and Shapes
Students will learn to combine monotype with drypoint, chine colle with and extended color palatte.
All classes cover how to use akua inks and tools. Great opportunity to try out monotype or brush up on your skills. Printmaking is a wonderful addition to your art making toolbox.

Judy Just is an experienced printmaker, having worked with Akua for many years after developing chemical sensitivity issues. She is also a painter and bookmaker, including many of her prints into books.
Judy received her BFA from Washington University with subsequent studies in Greece and Mexico. Many exhibits and collections in the US and Europe feature her work. Judy has taught workshops and classes using non-toxic waterbased media, in the Southwest, California, and Florida for many years. The workshops and classes offer an easy and relaxed atmosphere for beginning and experienced artist to explore creativity. Her art is well known for its exuberant colors and energy. Her imagery is drawn from her local, moving toward the abstract. She uses painting, printmaking, bookarts, and encaustic to explore her artistic vision.
