Sgraffito for the Narrative Surface

Delve into the technique of sgraffito-the act of covering a clay surface with a contrasting slip or underglaze and carving through that surface to reveal the color of the clay beneath. We’ll explore the different carving tools, how to use them to create a variety of marks, and the best state of clay on which to use them. Time permitting, learn methods for transferring drawn images onto three-dimensional surfaces.
