Screen Printing

Squeegees are a tool used to push or pull ink across a screen printing screen. The 'blade' is not sharp but often made of a sturdy yet slightly pliable material like some plastics or rubber. Speedball has five different types of squeegees each designed for different printing techniques.

A screen is made up of a frame with a woven fabric mesh stretched across it. The frame is often made from wood or metal and sometimes plastic, and the mesh fabric can have different 'printing resolutions' based on the tightness of the weave. Speedball offers a range of wood and aluminum screens designed for both beginners and professionals alike.

There are three primary means of producing a screen printed image: Cut Paper Stencil Method, Drawing Fluid & Screen Filler, and Photo Emulsion. Before getting started, read through these descriptions to see which technique best suits your artwork and interest, or matches the kit purchased.

Both are certifications recieved from the Art and Creative Materials Institute as a result of extensive toxicological testing. AP is for products that contain no materials in sufficient quantities to be toxic or injurious to humans, including children, or to cause acute or chronic health problems. CL is for products that are labeled in accordance with the chronic hazard labeling standard and are certified to be not hazardous if used in accordance with directions on packaging.
